Berek is a local area product that has grown up around baseball. After graduating from WVHS in 2003 (All-NAL, among other honors), he played for 2 years at Shasta JC (where he was selected to the All-Conference Team) before earning a full scholarship to NCAA Division II ENMU, and spent a year in New Mexico. He returned home in 2007 and attended Simpson University. During the summer, he played for the Colt 45’s in their first few seasons as a developing collegiate summer program, leading to his signing with the Chico Outlaws Independent Organization in the spring of 2008. He played 3+ years of indy ball, playing with the Outlaws, the Calgary Vipers of Canada, the Tijuana Cimarrones of Mexico, and finishing with the Edmonton Capitals (also in Alberta, Canada) in 2010. After his time in pro ball, he moved back to the North State to begin his career in coaching with the Redding Colt 45s as well as continuing his work in the renewable energy industry. He worked as the Pitching Coach with the organization until 2015 under retired MLB player Rick Bosetti, and in 2015 he managed the team with Mike Walker from Team Australia Baseball in order for Bosetti to focus his organizational development vision as team President and General Manager. Berek returned as Pitching Coach in 2016-17 working with Greg Cadaret (a long time MLB player, as well as longtime coach at the college and pro levels) at the helm developing young arms. When Greg moved to Michigan to coach in Independent Baseball in 2018, Berek again assumed the duties as Manager for the program while working closely with Rick Bosetti to continue program development. He and his wife Ashley have a home in Cottonwood, CA where they raise their daughter Gracelynn and son Aerek while still participating in the many community programs that they are involved in with both of their careers. Berek also continues his work with local high school athletes and coaches to prepare for the next level of baseball.

Berek has been a cornerstone of the Redding Colt 45s, dating back to his days as a local player. Graduating from West Valley High School in 2003, he played at Shasta College and Eastern New Mexico University, pitching in the summers for the Colt 45s. He embarked on a professional career in independent baseball that took him to diamonds from Mexico to Canada before returning to the Colt 45s as a coach, and then manager. [READ FULL BIO]
