Roop’s homer backs strong start from Marquez as Colt 45s win third straight

Colt 45s top Santa Rosa Athletics 7-4

The Colt 45s remain perfect for the month of July, as Brendan Roop’s three-run homer in the third sparked Redding to a 7-4 win over the Santa Rosa Athletics Saturday night.

The Colt 45s have claimed three straight at Tiger Field to start the month of July. The same two teams meet for the finale of the three-game set Sunday night at 6:15 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the game is broadcast live on KCNR radio, with a link available on the reddingcolt45s.com home page.

Roop’s third homer of the season came off Nick Cox in the bottom of the third, capping a four-tun frame and giving the Colt 45s a lead they would not relinquish. Starter Jacob Marquez (3-3) hurled five strong innings, scattering six hits and one walk, allowing three earned runs, striking out five. A pitcher for Santa Rosa Community College, Marquez was facing a team featuring several of his current college teammates. Colby Milligan threw three strong innings of scoreless relief. Jeff Kross allowed a single run in the ninth to close out the win.

Tyler Thompson continued his solid campaign, going 3-4, and Julian Kodama hit in his tenth straight game. He has hit safely in every game he’s played for the Colt 45s. Jakob Machuca and Tanner Tweedt also had two-hit games.
